A lot of people ask me at shows or in emails how I feel about competition. I think many people think I want to be the only collar company in Toronto, or I think that everyone is my customer, and it's actually not true. Some people seem to feel bad if I "catch" them with another company's products. I have made some wonderful acquaintances with other collar company owners and I find that most of us ---MOST--- are actually in this because we love it, and finding other people who love it and understand how hard it can be and how wonderful it can be, is pretty great.
I have learned that not everyone is in the market for our product. Maybe someone has a dog that swims every single day in a creek and rolls in the mud all the time, runs through the forest and under bushes...I know that they are going to run through our collars pretty quick in those conditions. So I recommend Smoochy Poochy, because they have these cool rubbery collars that don't stink in water and wipe off easily, and for muddy playful dogs, that is amazing! I also love that it's not leather, because I'm a veggie lady and prefer not to promote leather products. No one needs me to do that, if you want that, you know where to find it! Now, I hope maybe that dogs parents might want one of our collars for their daily walks, or something for special occasions, maybe they'd like us to create something for their wedding... that'd be nice! But I don't hesitate to recommend someone to another company that I respect. I have found that other companies seem more than willing to recommend us for dogs that have allergies because of our soft cotton outer layer, and it's always lovely to hear when they have sent someone our way for a pet that could use our product. It goes both ways.
So, when you come to my booth and your dog is wearing someone else's collar and you feel the need to say "we love your collars but we aren't wearing it today! I feel so bad!"... DON'T! It's cool! We hear this often! I have tons of shoes and they aren't all the same brand, you can have more than one collar if you want. I get it! I just love that you want to stop in and say hi and let me pet your dogs :) And I think it's really nice that you want us to know that you still love us. That's always pretty great to hear! We wouldn't be here without you!
